Generalized Bounded Tree Cover of a Graph

چکیده
A tree cover of a graph is a collection of subgraphs such that each vertex is a part of at least one subgraph and each subgraph is a tree. The bounded tree cover problem (BTC) finds a tree cover with minimum number of trees of bounded weight. This paper considers several generalized versions of BTC. The first problem deals with graphs having multiple metric weight functions. Strong and weak tree cover problems are two variations of the first problem. In strong tree cover, every tree must be bounded with respect to all weight functions, whereas in weak tree cover, each tree must be bounded with respect to at least one weight function. A 4-approximation algorithm for strong tree cover and an O(logn)-approximation algorithm for weak tree cover problem are proposed. The objective of the second problem is to find a tree cover where bounds of the trees in the tree cover are not necessarily same. It is proved that this problem cannot be approximated within a constant factor unless P=NP. A constant factor approximation algorithm is proposed when the ratio of maximum and minimum bounds is bounded by a constant. The third problem considers BTC for a graph with a general weight function which is not necessarily metric. A 3-approximation algorithm is proposed for this problem. Approximation algorithms for metric tree cover and generalized tour and tree covers
Given a weighted undirected graph G = (V, E), a tree (respectively tour) cover of an edge-weighted graph is a set of edges which forms a tree (resp. closed walk) and covers every other edge in the graph. The tree (resp. tour) cover problem is of finding a minimum weight tree (resp. tour) cover of G. Arkin, Halldórsson and Hassin (1993) give approximation algorithms with factors respectively 3.5...
متن کاملMinors and Dimension
It has been known for 30 years that posets with bounded height and with cover graphs of bounded maximum degree have bounded dimension. Recently, Streib and Trotter proved that dimension is bounded for posets with bounded height and planar cover graphs, and Joret et al. proved that dimension is bounded for posets with bounded height and with cover graphs of bounded tree-width. In this paper, it ...
متن کاملUsing Neighborhood Diversity to Solve Hard Problems
Parameterized algorithms are a very useful tool for dealing with NP-hard problems on graphs. Yet, to properly utilize parameterized algorithms it is necessary to choose the right parameter based on the type of problem and properties of the target graph class. Tree-width is an example of a very successful graph parameter, however it cannot be used on dense graph classes and there also exist prob...
متن کاملOn the spectra of reduced distance matrix of the generalized Bethe trees
Let G be a simple connected graph and {v_1,v_2,..., v_k} be the set of pendent (vertices of degree one) vertices of G. The reduced distance matrix of G is a square matrix whose (i,j)-entry is the topological distance between v_i and v_j of G. In this paper, we compute the spectrum of the reduced distance matrix of the generalized Bethe trees.
متن کاملDynamic Data Structure for Tree-Depth Decomposition
We present a dynamic data structure for representing a graph G with tree-depth at most D. Tree-depth is an important graph parameter which arose in the study of sparse graph classes. The structure allows addition and removal of edges and vertices such that the resulting graph still has tree-depth at most D, in time bounds depending only on D. A tree-depth decomposition of the graph is maintaine...
